Women’s Empowerment Group_ Frequently Asked Questions
What is the group about?
See the weekly topics regarding weekly topics.
Are there specific requirements to attend a group?
The therapist must know everyone in the group prior to them attending. Therefore, a consultation is required. If the therapist thinks you may not be a good fit for the group the therapist will refund all your money and refer you to a facility or group that may be more appropriate. The consultation is free if you sign up for group.
This is a closed group (once the group closes the same people meet with each other every week) so there is a requirement to make a commitment to all ten weeks because your fellow group members will miss your presence. You will also miss important information as each group builds on the previous group. It is also important to show up to all groups on time.
How is this group different from a support group?
A support group is a self help group run by peers for the purpose of supporting one another around a specific topic. For example, a support group for mothers of deceased children or a support group for those who suffer with PTSD. Individuals in these group do not desire to change they only desire to be heard.
A process group, such as this is a group, focuses on specific content led by a licensed professional who will guide you through a process with the intent of moving you to a place of being less depressed, less sad, an improved understanding, or a new perspective. It addresses faulty thinking, negative self talk and challenges you to embrace new ideas and ways of doing things. A process group is not just about talking and airing problems but it challenges you to come up with solutions and to work on the solutions as a group, in much the same way you might work on issues in individual therapy.
Is there a specific age group?
The only requirement is that you are above the age of 18 and able to emotionally, physically, and mentally fit into the group. The therapist makes an effort to assure all participants will have a sense of belonging.
What are my transportation/parking options?
There is free parking. The general location is the City Ave. and Bala Ave. near Philadelphia/Bala Cynwyd areas. It is near buses and regional rail. You must register to get the exact location of the group.
How often does the group meet?
The group meets once a week on Saturday mornings: 10am - 11:30am. This is to allow you to have a great start to your weekend.
Can I pay as I attend each group?
Yes, you may pay as you go; however, you will pay a higher fee per session.
What is the cost of group?
The Women’s Empowerment Group cost $350 for all ten sessions.
If you choose to pay as you go, sessions are $45 per session.
Your $45 consultation fee will cover the cost of your 1st group.
How are group participants chosen?
The Women’s Empowerment Group is for those who feel they are able to get their needs met in a group format. This is not individual therapy. It is usually a good idea to have done some work in individual therapy though this is not a requirement. It is also a good idea to use group as a supplement to your individual therapy. The therapist will let you know during the consultation if she feels you are not a good fit (this is rare).
What's the refund policy?
If you pay in advance and change you mind you are welcome to have your money refunded as long as group has not started.
There are no refunds once the group begins.
Do I have to attend all ten groups?
This is a closed group; therefore, everyone should plan to attend all ten groups.
If you plan to pay as you go, you may have to miss a group. If you must miss a group please give at least 25 hours notice or you will be required to pay for the group session in full.
If you have paid in advance for all ten groups there will be no refunds, since you have been given a significant discount. You will not be charged anything additional if you miss a group.
If you know you must miss more than one group this may not be the group for you. Ask the therapist the exact dates so you can schedule appropriately.
